Leather Dog Collars

If you are going to buy your pooch a new leather collar, doesn't he or she deserve the best? A fine leather collar with jewels is just the thing for your pampered pooch. You can get collars in many colors and styles.

I prefer the elegant collars with rhinestones. They are just beautiful. They will make your doggie the envy of the neighborhood. Getting the correct size of dog collar leaves some people confused. You generally need to get a collar that measures from 1 to 1.5" greater the the actual neck measurement of you dog. This leaves a little room so your dog does not choke, but not too much room so he can slip out of his collar when going for a walk.

We learned this lesson the hard way. We had just gotten our new baby from an adoption agency. When we got him, he already had a collar and we did not check how well his collar fit. We were taking him to see Santa and attached his leash and walked outside to the car. He didn't like the leash at all and easily slipped out of his collar. He immediately dashed across the road and ran down the sidewalk. Fortunately we live in a development and there isn't a lot of traffic.

Well, my husband and I ran down the sidewalk trying to catch him (like that was a possibility). We got to the bike path and my husband was going to take that to try and cut him off and catch him that way. Then he suddenly appeared back around the corner and ran back to me. I guess he finally realized nobody was following him. He was probably wondering what was taking us so long. I picked him up and carried him back to the house. I immediately adjusted his collar so he could not do that again. Then we went to Petsmart so he could go see Santa.

We were lucky that he got out of his collar when he did. Imagine what could have happened if he would have escaped after we got to the store. This was next to a mall and he would most likely have been hit by a car.

So now his collar is mainly for show. And to carry his dog tags. When we walk him, he gets a walking harness - it feels more secure and he doesn't choke himself by pulling.

Dog Beds

So how many beds does your pampered pooch have? Mine has two dog beds of his own, and he also shares our big bed. Plus he has claimed the sofa in the family room. One of his beds is in the corner of the family room, next to his toy box.

He sleeps in there in the evening while we watch tv. Sometimes he sleeps on the recliners next to me or my husband. Then sometimes he wants to be alone, so he goes to his bed. He also uses his bed when he is playing. When we are playing and throw his toy, he will run after it, then jump into his bed - as if he is safe there.

He has his own bed up in our bedroom too. We keep it on the floor next to our bed. He sleeps on that for a while, then he jumps up into our bed. Sometimes if he gets to warm during the night, he will jump down and sleep on his own bed.

He thinks of his beds as his safe haven. He goes there when he is tired and when he wants to be alone. He loves to eat in bed too. We find his dog snacks hidden between the cushion all the time.
